Getting Crafty at Home: Simple STEM Activities for Curious Minds

STEM learning doesn’t have to stop when your child leaves preschool—it can continue right at home through fun, hands-on activities! Everyday materials can turn into powerful learning tools that spark creativity, problem-solving, and curiosity. Here are three easy, engaging STEM crafts to try with your preschooler:

1. Build a Paper Tower:

Give your child paper, tape, and child-safe scissors, and challenge them to build the tallest tower possible. Talk about what makes a structure strong and how different shapes help it stand.

 2. Magic Milk Experiment:

Pour milk into a shallow dish, add drops of food coloring, and touch the surface with a Q-tip dipped in dish soap. Watch the colors swirl! Explain how soap breaks the surface tension of the milk—just like real scientists exploring reactions.

 3. Homemade Play Dough Science:

Mix 1 cup flour, ¼ cup salt, ½ cup water, and a bit of food coloring. Let your child measure, pour, and stir while discussing textures, measurements, and color mixing.

These simple activities nurture curiosity and confidence while making memories together. At Little Scientists Preschool, we believe learning happens everywhere—especially when it’s full of wonder and fun!
